The Corner Beet is a fresh, healthy, organic restaurant focusing on vegetarian fare and cold pressed juices. They will be featuring a "Bud the Beet" themed Mocktail for both kids and adults to enjoy. Chicken Mushroom Challenge: Chef Jesse Vega

The talented Jesse Vega created a dish inspired by the book and managed to incorporate many of the characters. He created a grilled chicken mushroom meatball with sofrito, over an eggplant chicken liver spread and wrapped in a grilled mushroom "nest." Topped with a cippolini and fig chimmichuri. This dish crushed!

In the spirit of the book chef Paul Reilly took a classic meatball and red sauce recipe and gave it a chicken mushroom twist. These chicken mushroom meatballs simmered all day and became even richer with the addition of mushrooms. Served in red sauce with a sprinkle of parm and grilled bread for dipping these balls were good for the soul!

Vesta has an impressive charcuterie program and we were honored to have Steven Cox work his magic making chicken mushroom sausages. Seasoned perfectly with the addition of toasted porcini powder the sausage was grilled and served over saute'd kale with pistachio mint pesto and grana padana cheese. A perfect plate!

I was honored to be chosen as the guest chef/author to judge this creative competition. Over 40 students from all ages prepared a special dished inspired by a book they chose. It was the first year of this event and I hope I am invited back next year! So much fun!

Book Trust Organization's Annual Fundraising Event

The 9 Lives of Charlie the Chicken Mushroom was featured as an auction item, complete with a kids cooking demo day for up to 4 kids ages 4-15. We will cook 4 dishes from the book and for a "mocktail" party of up to 10 people. We raised $500 for booktrust.org.

Gracefull Cafe and I teamed up for a day of fun with menu items inspired by the book. Complete with face painting and live music it was day to celebrate and let your freak flag fly. Gracefull is a non-profit cafe that believes is strengthening one's community by giving back and paying it forward. Check them out for breakfast and lunch five days a week!
